Milingimbi

Milingimbi is a Yolŋu community of approximately 1400 people located in the Crocodile Islands 200 kilometres west of Nhulunbuy, approximately a one hour flight from Darwin.

The Milingimbi community was established in 1923 with the arrival of missionaries. During World War II, the Milingimbi community was bombed, forcing most of the island’s residents to relocate to Galiwin'ku. World War II relics can still be visited in the community today.

The Milingimbi community is home to the Milingimbi Art and Culture Centre, housed in a historical building constructed in the 1930s of mud and bricks.

A permit is required from the Northern Land Council to visit this community.
